Govt to promote budding musicians

SHILLONG: The Department of Arts and Culture is keen to promote budding musicians in the State.
Replying to an unstarred question, Arts and Culture Minister Clement Marak said that the Department is organizing competitions throughout the State to identify potential musical talents.
In addition, District Arts and Culture Societies have been setup in all districts to promote arts and culture through different cultural activities at the district as well as the State level and also by promoting indigenous folk music, workshops and seminars, he said.
Marak also said that financial assistance for organizing musical festivals, workshops, dramas, etc., are being extended to registered voluntary organizations. In addition, 15 centres are being set up all over the State for 2013-14.
The Department also has the State Institute of Arts and Culture to impart free training to budding musicians. So far 323 students have been trained, the Minister informed.
