Concert

Seagram’s 100 Pipers music CDs and India’s legendary classic rock band Parikrama came together with ‘100 Pipers Play for a Cause’, for an event at Shillong Club, Shillong on November 15, as a part of 15 city benefit concerts dedicated towards the cause of sponsoring ‘meals for the underprivileged’ which is facilitated through meal vouchers from Khushii, an established NGO.

Traffic rule

Consequent upon the closure of most schools due to winter vacation in Laitumkhrah and surrounding areas, the one way entry imposed through Dhankheti during morning school hours has been temporarily lifted till further order.

Cleaning drive

The Dorbar Shnong, Lawmali Pyllun will organize a cleaning drive within the locality on December 13 from 8 am. No vehicles will be allowed to ply in the locality during the cleaning drive.

Festival

The District Administration of North Garo Hills in collaboration with the Art and Culture Department, will organize the 2nd A’we Winter Festival on December 12-13 at Resubelpara. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma will grace the inaugural function while Chairman, State Planning Board, S.C. Marak will attend the closing ceremony.

Training

A two-day trainers’ programme and pre-retirement counselling workshop for Central government pensioners organised by officials of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, department of Pension and Pensioners Welfare, Govt of India was conducted in assistance with Assam Rifles on Nov 28. Lt. Gen. R.K. Rana, DG, Assam Rifles gave the inaugural address.

Awareness

Lamjingshai SHG Umthlong Village (Mairang Block) in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Nongstoin, will organize a one-day theme-based awareness cum education programme on November 29 at Umthlong Village. Over 100 participants from different youth clubs, women’s organizations, self help groups, sports clubs and individuals are expected to attend the programme.

Farewell

The officers and staff of AIR, Shillong, on Friday bade farewell to Dy. Director General (Programme), AIR, N. Shadap, who retired after more than 36 years of service, having started as a transmission executive on May 6, 1978. A function was also organised in her honour at AIR, Shillong.

Eye camp

A free eye camp was organized on November 27 by SHQ BSF Jowai Camp at Khliehriat. Dr. D.W. Bhutia, CMO of BSF and Dr. Anil Prasad, SMO Eye Specialist, Composite Hospital, BSF, Shillong, extended free treatment and distributed medicines to more than 330 patients from Rymbai and surrounding villages.

Programme

Br. MSME, Shillong, working under Ministry of MSME, is organizing a one-day State-level vendor development programme for micro and small enterprises, on December 18 at the Conference hall, NEEPCO, Shillong, under public procurement policy of Ministry of MSME.
