Guwahati: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday laid the foundation of a new Central Forensic Science Labora-tory (CFSL) in Mirza town, near Guwahati.

The state-of-the-art CFSL will help the law enforcement agencies in catching high-tech criminals through quality and clinching forensic evidence, Singh said at the occasion.

He also said cyber crime was a big challenge to the modern society and appea-led to the forensic fraternity to join hands with government in handling sophisticated crimes by providing forensic solu-tions in a time-bound manner.

Quality forensic science practice would act as a medium in building a crime-free society and would play an important role in socio-economic development of the country, Singh said. He also appreciated the role of Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for his continuous support to the project, including providing land for the purpose.

The new CFSL, first in the north-eastern region, will be one of the best state-of-the-art laboratories in the country, CFSL officials said. (PTI)
