‘Nominate Khasi MDC in Karbi Anglong’

 NONGPOH: In bid the ease the swelling tension resulting from the extortion demands to the Khasi community in Raid Nongtung by the KPLT, the Peace Coordination Committee of the All Meghalaya Karbi Association (AMKA) on Tuesday urged all the Khasi NGOs to avoid any confrontation statement as it will only leads to mistrust and misgiving between the two communities.

An emergency meeting was convened by the Peace Coordination Committee at Marmain here on Tuesday after receiving the information of extortion bid by KPLT in Raid Nongtung following which the KSU NKHD threatened to take action against the Karbi community living in Ri Bhoi district.

Speaking to The Shillong Times, AMKA adviser Owen Terang said that they have decided to take up the matter with the NGOs in Karbi Anglong to have talks with KPLT in this regard.

 The AMKA president said that after much discussion, they decided to demand the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chief Executive Member to nominate an MDC from the Khasi community who will voice the grievances of the Khasi people living in KAAC areas.

He also informed that they have decided to meet the Chief Ministers of both Assam and Meghalaya to demand early solution of border disputes between the two states.
