SHILLONG: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has reiterated that the ANVC cadres are expected to surrender their arms and ammunition by mid-December.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Sangma said that this (surrender of arms) would pave the way for the disbandment of the outfit.

The state government recently issued a directive to start disbanding process of the two Garo rebel outfits – the ANVC and its faction group, the ANVC-B at the earliest.

The disbanding process came in the wake after the Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) and its splinter group, the ANVC-B have signed the peace agreement with the Centre and state government earlier on September 24, which took place at the national capital.
