SHILLONG: The State government will come up with a policy which will ‘truly-empower’ persons with disabilities (PWDs) and will also publish an annual report on their achievements and talents in the form of a book.

Announcing this here on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma urged the concerned department to capture the success stories of the PWDs and prepare an annual report on their achievements.

“We will come up with certain programmes beside what we have initiated, that will revolve around the concept of truly empowering the PWDs,” Sangma said this while addressing a function organized on the occasion of International Day for Persons with Disabilities, 2014 here.

He assured full support to the persons with disabilities saying that the reservation policy pertaining to them would be implemented in the letter and spirit.

The Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya DD Lapang in his brief speech hoped that the programmes taken up by the State Government would not only inculcate the feeling of social security, but also would infuse in them the sense of expectation for a better future.

As part of the day’s programme, seven PWDs were felicitated for their outstanding achievements.

The programme was organized by the Social Welfare department on the theme “Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology” in collaboration with various partners and NGOs.
