Cyber crime rises in city

SHILLONG: Despite police advisories, people in Shillong continue to be duped by miscreants as one more case of cyber crime has surfaced in the city.

One person lodged a complaint at Madanrting PS that on November 28 around 11.25 am, he received a call from an unidentified person who claimed to be an SBI official asking for his ATM details which was provided by the complainant.

Later he received an SMS that an amount of Rs. 23,500 has been debited from his account.

In another similar incident, Isidof Tariang lodged a complaint at Shillong Sadar PS that on October 17, 2014 he withdrew Rs. 40,000 from SBI ATM at GS Road, Police Bazar, Shillong but the cash was not dispensed.

However, the amount was deducted from his SBI account. On November 27, he received a call from SBI authority informing him that the transaction was successful and the cash was received by another unidentified person.
