Christmas Peace Festival

TURA: Shalom Meghalaya, a massive Peace movement spearheaded by various Church bodies in Garo Hills in the wake of growing militancy is organising a colourful Peace Programme in Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills today.

Christened ‘Pre-Christmas Peace Festival’, the Programme is aimed at pressurising the Youth who have joined militant groups to come over ground giving up arms and to work for the growth and development of Garo Hills.

During the one-day Festival, leading local artists like Jowas, Balam, Sundaystar and other Gospel groups will appeal to the state government and rebel groups for Peace through their voices. The programme which will be held at MP Stadium, Tura from 10.30am onwards will also feature cultural dances making the event colourful.

Among the dignitaries to grace the occasion include Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma, North Tura MLA, Noverfield Marak, Mahendraganj MLA, Dikanchi D Shira, Tura Bishop, Andrew Marak, ABDK Vice President, H N Sangma among others.

A Memorandum to address the critical issues of Garo Hills related to militancy will also be handed over to the Chief Guest.
