Itanagar: ‘ Scientists see the world as it was, but engineers create the world as it never been’, stated Prof IIT Bombay, P Seshu, in his inaugural speech on the three-day International Symposium on ‘Aspects of Mechanical Engineering and Technology for Industry’, held here on Saturday.
Addressing on the occasion as Chief Guest, Mr Seshu said, mechanical engineering is the top among all the engineering departments as it is a leading industry in the development and application of high tech, ranging from electronics to new materials and so on.
The programme being organised by Mechanical Department of North Eas-tern Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), Nirjuli, sponsored by Union MoHRD World Bank project (TEQIP).
He said, it is important that success of a seminar is depends on the number of participation of academi-cians and researchers in the programme. The Prof hoped with the organising of three day sessions the students of NERIST will be immen-sely benefitted.
In his brief note, conve-nor, Pradip Lingfa, head of the department of mecha-nical engineering depart-ment, NERIST, said, mecha-nical engineering is argua-bly one of the most compe-titive fields in the world.
The industrialisation towards economy has been the most important driver for demand for machinery and equipment, however, high risk propensities of investors and relaxed financing conditions have also contributed to the industry’s bright develop-ment, he said.
Expressing high hope on the success of the 3-day Symposium, he said, it will be covered from the wide spectrum of mechanical engineering subjects like, aerodynamics, applied mechanics, automation, automotive engineering, fluid mechanics, renewable and non-renewable energy, bio-technology etc.
He informed that about 120 participants from different organisations have registered in the programme, out of which 100 research papers will be presenting in 9 technical sessions including two parallel sessions.
The prominent acade-micians and scientist will be delivering keynote lecture in their respective field of research are – Dr H B Nadenda, Brunei University, Prof P Seshu, IIT Bombay, Prof P S Mehta, IIT Chennai, former professor of IIT Delhi, M K Gajendra Prabhu, Dr Rupesh Roshan, GE, Bangalore among others, he informed. Earlier, in his welcome address, chairman of the organising committee, Prof M Muralidhar, Dean (P&D), NERIST advocated on the aim and objective of the Symposium.(UNI)
