Kohima:Former Nagaland chief secretary Banuo Z Jamir has said women in the state had to struggle more than men to reach and rise to the positions of recogni-tion. Ms Banuo also said women empowerment has often been given a ‘negative connotation’ and to mean ‘an aggressive encroachment into the male preserve.’

The former chief secretary this was said while addressing a function organised by Beauty and Aesthetic Society of Naga-land (BASN) which was celebrating the completion of 25 years of existence at Regional Centre of Excel-lence for Music & Performing Arts at Jotsoma, near Kohima, last evening.’

Ms Banuo said that even in politics women should try to bring a paradigm shift in the mindset of the people so as to encourage women to come into political arena as elected representa-tives.(UNI)
