Nursing student commits suicide at AIIMS
NEW DELHI: A 20-year-old nursing student, who was depressed, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her hostel room at AIIMS, authorities said on Monday. The police said Pallavi Grover was depressed as she had failed in one of her practical examinations recently. “She was also depressed over her relations with the hostel superintendent and other staff,” police said. Grover, a third year student of BSc Nursing, had returned from her home in Mayapuri in Delhi Sunday night. “Her body was found around 10pm Sunday … a suicide note has also been found, which is with the police for analysis,” said a senior official at AIIMS, which is a premier hospital of the country. According to the police, Grover’s friend went to check on her after receiving a call from her mother, who said she was unable to reach her daughter on phone despite repeated attempts. The body has been taken by the police for post mortem examination. (IANS)
5 children injured as school bus falls into drain
Bundi (Raj): Five children were injured when a school bus carrying 30 students lost balance and fell into a drain near Thikeriykalan village of the district on Monday morning, police said. “The bus, belonging to a public secondary school, was carrying 30 children — all of primary standard. It was going to the school from Thikeriykalan village when it fell into the drain after losing balance,” Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramkishan Gurjar said. While four of the injured children were discharged after first aid, a girl suffered fracture and was sent to hospital in Kota for treatment, he said. The children were pulled out of the bus by villagers after breaking window glasses. On a complaint filed by the father of an injured girl, a case of negligent driving was lodged against the bus driver who fled the spot after the incident, the ASI said. (PTI)
Woman jumps off mall building a day before wedding
New Delhi:A 29-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide just a day before her marriage in west Delhi’s Rajouri Garden by jumping from the fourth floor of a mall where a pre-wedding function had been organised. The incident took place last evening, police said on Monday. Shivani, who was working with a company in Gurgaon till recently, was to get married to Ajay, who works in Singapore, on Monday. They had got engaged on Wednesday. “Mehndi ceremony had been organised last night at a restaurant on the top floor of TDI Mall in Rajouri Garden. Her relatives said she was doing fine and had even got mehndi applied on her hands. Around 11:30 PM, she suddenly went to the edge and jumped on the road below and died on the spot,” a senior police official said. “We are questioning her close friends and checking the call records of her mobile phone to ascertain the reason behind her taking such an extreme step,” he said. 7 killed in road accident
Amroha:Seven members of a family including three children were killed and two others injured when their car rammed into an over-loaded tractor trolley near Dhanurah tehsil here on Monday. The accident occurred when the family was going to Chandpur town of the neighbouring Bijnor district on Monday when their car rammed into an over-loaded trolley from behind, they said. The deceased have been identified as Prachi (8), Anshul (7), Manish (12), Kallu (65), Kailaso (60), Anuradha (30) and Deepak (24), police said. Sanjana (14) and driver Mannu (35) were injured in the accident, they said. Locals blocked the Aligarh-Dehradun road, keeping the dead bodies on the road till the driver of the trolley was arrested and demanded compensation for the victims, police said. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, police said, adding that the injured are undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital. (PTI)
Man forces wife to abort foetus, marries another woman
Thane:A 35-year-old man allegedly forced his wife to undergo abortion after which he abandoned her and married another woman, police said on Monday. Abhishek Natwarlal Chaturvedi, a resident of Bhayander township in Thane, recently forced his wife to undergo abortion, Navghar police station sub-inspector Prashant Shirke said. He then married another woman at a temple last month by luring her with a promise of getting her a job, he said. The victim lodged a police complaint against the accused last evening. Subsequently, offences were registered against the man under sections 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), 420 (cheating) and 494 (marrying again during life time of husband or wife) of the IPC, the police officer said adding that a search has been launched to nab the accused. 25-year-old cafe owner shot dead
Meerut:A 25-year-old cafe owner was allegedly shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Mahal village here, police said on Monday. Pushpendra alias Bunty, son of Roop Singh was shot by three masked, bike-borne miscreants on Sunday at the deceased’s cafe and fled from the spot after the crime, district police spokesperson said. The family of the victim has lodged a complaint with Inchauli police today in the connection, he said. As per the preliminary investigation into the case, it appears that the culprits had enmity with the deceased, Abdul Kadir, circle officer of the area said. Police said that they have found few leads in the case on the basis of which the culprits will be nabbed soon. (PTI)
Girl harassed by two youths, arrested
Muzaffarnagar:An 18-year-old girl was allegedly harassed by two youths who also beat up her brother when he tried to oppose them, following which the duo were arrested, police said on Monday. The incident took place yesterday near the Tehsil office here when the accused identified as Deepak Kumar and Anuj Kumar harassed the victim when she was coming with her brother from Pinna village on a motorcycle, they said. The locals nabbed the youths and handed them over to police, they said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard. (PTI)
