3 cops killed as bike collides with anti-landmine vehicle
Raipur:Three policemen were on Wednesday killed when their motorcycle collided head-on with an anti-landmine vehicle which was on a night patrol in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bijapur district. The accident occurred at around 3 AM near collectorate office under Bijapur Police Station limits in which three assistant constables died, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela said. The deceased were identified as Modiyam Lakeshwar (28), Koram Satyam (21) and Mahadev Gota (32), natives of Bijapur. They were posted at police lines in the district headquarters, he said. Prima facie it appears that the policemen, riding triple on a bike, were apparently inebriated and failed to negotiate way with the mine-protected vehicle (aimed at protection of security forces conducting anti-terrorism and anti-Naxalite operations) which was coming from the opposite direction. The bike crashed head-on into its left side, the ASP said. Soon after the mishap, police personnel on night patrol informed senior officials and rushed the victims to a local hospital where they were declared brought dead, he said. As per preliminary investigation, the victims sustained fatal head injuries.(PTI)
Wanted dacoit arrested in Dholpur
Dholpur (Raj):A dacoit wanted in several cases of robbery, murder, and extortion and having a cash reward of Rs 2,000 was arrested during a combing operation in Ravines area of Dholpur, police said on Wednesday. A team of Dholpur police chased notorious dacoit Pappu Meena between Lilothi and Miramad areas and arrested him on Tuesday, they said. According to police, one 315 point bore rifle and two live cartridges were seized from his possession. The accused dacoit was wanted in an alleged murder of Sripati Meena of Mothiapura village from where he belonged. He was also wanted in extortion cases reported from mine owners of Karuali and Dholpur. Pappu was a member of the Rajkumar Meena dacoit gang, they said, adding, thorough probe will be conducted in each of the cases in which he was involved. (PTI)
5-yr-old girl raped in school van, driver arrested
Indore:A van driver allegedly raped a five-year-old school girl inside his vehicle here. The driver, identified as Ajay Solanki (25), has been arrested. Solanki allegedly raped the KG-I student on Tuesday evening in Aerodrome area of the city when she was alone in the van after he had dropped all other school children, Superintendent of Police (west zone) Abid Khan said. The girl, after reaching home, informed her parents about the offence following which they lodged a complaint against the van driver at the Aerodrome police station, he said. Based on the complaint, the accused was arrested today, he said. The girl was sent for sent for medical examination, Khan said, adding that a detailed probe was on in this connection. (PTI)
Cop’s grandson abducted, killed in Muzaffarnagar
Muzaffarnagar:A seven-year-old grandson of a sub-inspector was allegedly abducted, sodomised and murdered by unidentified persons in Mukandpur village here, police said on Wednesday. Body of Kulvansh, grandson of Sub-Inspector Rajpal, was yesterday found in a naked condition in a sugarcane field with his throat slit, SP (Rural) Alok Priyadarshi said. The minor was kidnapped on Tuesday while he was playing outside his house. Prima facie it appears that he was murdered after being sodomised, he added. A case has been registered in this connection and body has been sent for post-mortem, the SP said. (PTI)
Two policemen suspended in 17yr girl immolation case
Ludhiana (Pb):Two policemen have been suspended for negligence in connection with death of a 17-year-old girl who was allegedly set ablaze by six youths including three she had accused of rape. Assistant Sub Inspectors (ASIs) Balbir Singh, in-charge of Kanganwal police chowki, and Mohan Lal, in-charge of Focal Point police chowki, were placed under suspension yesterday, Punjab police said on Wednesday. The victim’s mother in her complaint had alleged that both ASIs had refused to register an FIR when she reported the matter to the police after her daughter was allegedly set ablaze by six youths. The alleged rape victim on Tuesday succumbed to her burn injuries at a government hospital in Chandigarh. The funeral of the victim took place last night amid tight security. A group of six youths including three rape accused had allegedly set the girl afire after sprinkling kerosene on her at her house in Prem Nagar colony of Dhanduri Khurd on December 4. (IANS)
