Mawlai & Boys Sports reach basketball finals

SHILLONG: Mawlai and Boys Sports Company qualified to the finals of the Shillong Games 2014. men’s basketball after respectively winning tight games against Nongrim Hills and Riatsamthiah. Mawlai beat Nongrim Hills by three points (72-69) while Boys Sports Company held on to a twelve point margin to beat Riatsamthiah 76-64. The final game will be played on the concluding day of the Shillong Games 2014, on 18 December between the two winning teams at 2:15 pm at the basketball court in Polo Grounds. Women’s basketball final will be played between Lawmali SC and Ryntih at 1 pm at the same venue.Meanwhile, Royal Wahingdoh will face Pynthor in the finals of the women’s football at 11 am at Ground III, Polo Grounds. In the prize distribution ceremony Director of Sports F. M Doph will be attending as chief guest and C. Kharmawphlang as the guest of honour

Big win for All Jaintia Cricket Association

SHILLONG: All Jaintia won by a massive 111 runs In the Inter District U-16 Cricket Tournament organized by Meghalaya Cricket Association. All Jaintia Cricket Association on winning the toss and deciding to bat first put up a formidable total of 179 runs for loss of 8 wickets in 35 overs, with Ram Toi notching up a scintillating 72 runs(70 balls) and T. Najiar 24 runs(22 balls), besides addition of significant extras. Khilu Pradhan was the only successful bowler for East Jaintia claiming 3 wickets. East Jaintia, in reply, never looked in control and began losing wickets from the start and their innings which lasted mere 17.5 overs, folded at a measly score of 68 runs all out with only Gloryborn Nongtdu reaching double figure scoring 19 runs(23 balls). Ram Toi in a brilliant all round performance with the ball too claimed 6 wickets conceding only 11 runs. On Thursday Shillong Cricket Association shall meet South West Khasi Hills.

ISL semi-final records 1.1 million online views

New Delhi: The Hero Indian Super League’s football semi-final between Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC recorded the highest number of online video views (1.1 million) ever witnessed in India for any single sport game.Currently in its first edition, the league has managed to create waves across the nation. It has recorded over 16 million online video views through the course of the tournament. Additionally, the official ISL online channel has registered 28.7 million visits. On social media too, the Hero ISL has struck a chord and recorded over 1.8 million conversations, 10 billion impressions and 275,000+ unique authors. (PTI)

Jharkhand take 3 points against Assam

Guwahati: A slender 26-run first-innings lead proved to be crucial for Jharkhand as they collected three points from their Ranji Trophy Group C cricket match against Assam here on Wednesday. Batting first, Assam were bowled out for 191 before Jharkhand managed 217. The hosts declared their second innings at 235 for nine, giving Jharkhand a target of 209 with not enough time left on the final day of the match. Opener Pallavkumar Das top-scored for Assam with Sibsankar Roy chipping in with 62, while bowler Ajay Yadav picked up 4/29 for Jharkhand. The visitors were 78 for four in 32 overs when stumps were drawn for the final time in the match. Skipper Saurabh Tiwary (28) and Kaushal Singh (24) were the not out batsmen at the crease at close of play. For Assam, Krishna Das was the most impressive bowler, returning figures of 3/17. Assam: 191 and 235 for nine decl in 93 overs (Pallavkumar Das 78, Sibsankar Roy 60) Jharkhand 1st innings: 217 and 78/4 in 32 overs. (PTI)
