TURA: South West Garo Hills District Arts & Cultural Society in collaboration with the Arts & Culture and Tourism departments from Shillong will be holding a one-day festival entitled ‘Mi Gital Festival’ at Ampati on December 20 to celebrate the tasting of the newly harvested rice.
The festival which will begin from 11am will include Song Kristan whereby community members will participate in a group song and dance competition and newly harvested variety of rice will be displayed by them.
Painting, dance, Christmas carol and karaoke singing competitions will be held for the school children in the evening.
These children are being groomed for the past one week under the expert guidance of specialists called from various parts of the State which has been sponsored by the Arts and Culture Department.
This is the first time that such kind of festival is being celebrated in the district.
“There is a lot of enthusiasm in the youth of the area who are going to showcase their unique talents in the festival. This will be their first step to take part in various state and national level talent shows and competitions,” said Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is expected to grace the inaugural function.
