SHILLONG: As many as six locations of the city have been put under CCTV surveillance on an experimental as part of the “Safe Secure Shillong” scheme.

The project will see 28 CCTV cameras being installed in different locations of the city and police sources on Tuesday said that the installation work would be complete by mid-January.

Police sources said that currently the six cameras are installed in the busy areas of the city and are being monitored from the control room set up for the purpose.

The installation of CCTV cameras is expected to act as a deterrent for anti-social elements besides helping in crowd and traffic management.

Under the second phase of the project, the State Police plans to integrate all the CCTV data from restaurants, shopping malls and other places. The initiative is also expected to go a long way in improving the law and order scenario in the city.
