SHILLONG: The North Eastern Service (NES) of All India Radio (AIR) Shillong will celebrate its Silver Jubilee on Saturday.
On the occasion, NES, AIR Shillong will broadcast a special progarmme titled “Silver Bells” from 5.10 pm to 7.05 pm. The progarmme can be heard on short wave 60.36 meters corresponding to 4970 Khtz and also on FM 100.1 Mhtz. The NES service was launched on January 3, 1990 with an aim to integrate the North Eastern states and display the culture of the region on a common platform.
Inaugurated by the then Union Minister of I&B, P Upendra in the presence of the then chief minister of Meghalaya, PA Sangma, NES, at its inception could only be accessed by listeners from the North East. At present it is available on FM100.1Mhtz (available only in Shillong) and on DTH as well and can be accessed from anywhere in the country.
