Man killed by lightning
Imphal: A 57-year old man was killed by lightning at an interior village in Imphal West district of Manipur, official sources said on Monday. Sources said Chaphamayum Mangi, the owner of a roadside hotel, was struck by the lightning yesterday while he was coming home along with wife at Loitang Khullen area, about 30 km north of here. He was immediately taken to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences here but died on way, sources said adding a portions of the road was also damaged by the lightning. (PTI)
Two dead, 6 injured in road accident near Kiphire
Kohima: Two persons were killed and six, including a baby and three minors, were injured when their car rolled down a road near Thsingaki river some 20 km away from Kiphire town. Official sources said the accident occurred Sunday evening when the vehicle carrying eight people was heading towards Kiphire from Santsoze village. The deceased have been identified as Kathsing Sangtam of 3rd Nagaland Armed Police, Kiphire and Diezechutou Chuse Havaldar of 14 Indian Reserve Battalion, ‘E Coy’ Kiphire camp. Both were found dead at the spot. The injured have been admitted to the District Hospital Kiphire where the condition of three was stated to be serious. As the driver was unconscious the actual cause of the accident was not yet known, sources said. (UNI)
Two suspected NDFB militants arrested Assam-Bengal border
Kolkata: Two suspected National Democratic Front of Bodoland militants were arrested late Sunday in West Bengal near Assam border. The militants were nabbed from Shamuktala under the Shamuktala police station in Alipurduar district of West Bengal close to the border with Assam. Both militants were identified as Gangaprasad Basumata and Sagid Narjinari from Kolkrajhar district in Assam. Police said. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition was recovered from them, police added. (IANS)
Nagaland has 5 International Border Trade Centres
Kohima: Nagaland Department of Industries and Commerce has identified five Border Trade Centres in three districts to have border trade with Myanmar. According to the Annual Administrative Report of the Department of Industries and Commerce 2013-14, the Border Trade Centres are situated at Longwa in Mon district, Pangsha in Longleng district, Avakhung and Moleh in Phek district and Mimi in Kiphire district. The centres have been set up along the Indo-Myanmar border for promotion of bilateral trade and other Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. Out of five, three Border Trade Centres have been taken up for development in the first phase for which contour mapping and Detailed Project Report preparation for Pangsha, Longwa and Avakhung have been done. Civil work on the infrastructure development has been taken up, the report stated, adding that the work is 100 per cent completed. (UNI)
AAPSU support to APPSCE aspirant Perying
Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Student Union (AAPSU) on Monday pledged support to APPSCE aspirant Ujum Perying, who has threatened to go on a 72-hour hunger strike from January 8 if APPSC Chairman Ligu Tacho and APPSC member Mamang Dai did not resign from posts over the APPSC examination paper leak fiasco. “The suspension of the commission’s officials, particularly the Joint Secretary-cum-controller of examination, in connection with the issue has raised our concern,” the union said in a release. “The confidentiality of any paper cannot be ascertained when the controller of examination, who has access to all the confidential files, is under the scanner,” it added. The union also demanded that a copy of the inquiry report of the matter should be made available to the consultative committee. (PTI)
