SHILLONG: Following a media report that East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts of Meghalaya had zero coverage as far as the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) scheme was concerned, the State Bank of India (SBI) has clarified that it was advised to work on the household data as per 2011 census report of the State which showed only seven districts.

The Assistant General Manager (R-I) and Convener, SLBC, Meghalaya said that East Jaintia Hills and South West Khasi Hills districts did not exist as per 2011 census and household coverage for those districts were added to the then Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills districts respectively.
However, he said that the bank has segregated the household data to the present 11 districts in the state and the data reported under Jaintia Hills has been divided between East and West Jaintia Hills whereas that of West Khasi Hills is now shown under West Khasi Hills and South West Khasi Hills.
