TURA: Former ANVC-B chairman Bernard N Marak (Rimpu) was recently appointed the Town Nokma of Tura according to a release issued on Saturday.
The title of Town Nokma was conferred on Rimpu by Enilla Ch Marak, the current A’king Nokma of Danakgre.
The move was aimed at bringing traditional administration under the A’king Nokma in his jurisdiction, the release said.
“For many years, although the main Tura Town falls under the A’king land, the Nokma has not been able to implement his powers in the area which has led to rampant occupation of land without the knowledge of the Nokma. The traditional way of functioning and the administration of the Nokma’s office have been sidelined for many years,” the release said.
The newly elected Nokma will check irregularities in the procurement of land, imposition of traditional administration, awareness and developmental works, stop illegal violation of the tribal rights and focus on strengthening the powers and rights of the local people under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, it further informed.
