Govt yet to decide on Warjri’s replacement
SHILLONG: Almost two months have passed since former Home Minister Roshan Warjri resigned from her post but the Meghalaya Government is yet to appoint a full-fledged Home Minister.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma is currently holding additional charge of the Home department, and there is no word on who would be appointed to replace Warjri.
Pained over the series of killing of police personnel and innocent civilians in Garo Hills region, Warjri had tendered her resignation from the State Cabinet on November 20 last owning moral responsibility of all those incidents.
Warjri had earned the unique distinction of becoming the first woman Home Minister of Meghalaya when she was sworn in on March 12, 2013, holding additional portfolios of Home (Jails) and PWD (Buildings).
Though the Chief Minister had said that he would try to convince Warjri to reconsider her decision, Warjri has not shown any inclination for a second innings.
Incidentally, sources, on the request of anonymity, claimed that Ronnie V Lyngdoh was being considered for the post of Home Minister but details could be confirmed.
