Rs 56.40 lakh looted from SBI branch in MP

Hoshangabad:Dacoits on Wednesday looted Rs 56.40 lakh from State Bank of India’s (SBI) Bankhedi town branch in Piparia tehsil here, police said. The matter came to light this morning when the security guard found the lock of the main door of the branch broken following which he informed police, Hoshangabad SP, Ashutosh Pratap Singh told PTI. The dacoits allegedly entered the bank premises in the wee hours and cut open the locker of the branch with a gas cutter and decamped with Rs 56.40 lakh, he said. The SP said that it appears that more than two persons were involved in the loot. The bank officials so far have found Rs 56.40 lakh missing from the bank’s chest. They are verifying whether other valuables too are missing or not. Police have launched a hunt to nab those behind the loot by sounding an alert. (PTI)

CAF jawan injured in bomb blast

Raipur:A Chhattisgarh Armed Force jawan was on Wednesday injured in a pressure bomb blast triggered by Naxals in Murdunda forest of insurgency-hit Bijapur district. The blast took place under Awapalli police station limits when a road opening party of CAF was conducting its task, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI. While combing the forest, jawan Gangesh Yadav of CAF’s 13 battalion accidentally came in contact with the pressure bomb planted by the ultras. In the blast, he suffered severe injuries on his legs and hands, he said. Later, the jawan was shifted to a local hospital for treatment, he said. A search operation has been launched in the region to nab the attackers, he said. A jawan of the same CAF unit was injured yesterday in a landmine blast triggered by Naxals in Murdunda region. (PTI)

Man arrested for killing wife, daughter

Gaya (Bihar):A man, who allegedly killed his wife and daughter over a family dispute in a village in Gaya district of Bihar, was arrested on Wednesday. The incident happened at Pant Nagar village in Magadh Medical College police station in Gaya district, police said. The deceased were identified as Soni Kumari (20) and Annu Kumari (3). “The accused Nikku Kumar attacked his wife Soni and daughter Annu with a sharp-edged weapon. Both died and he was held when taking the bodies in a sack on a bicycle to dump in the Phalgu river,” Gaya Town Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alok Kumar Singh said. “A police patrol party spotted him taking the bodies and stopped him. He left the bodies on the roadside and was held when he started to flee. The bodies were later sent for post-mortem,” he said. The DSP said Kumar had written his mobile numbers on a piece of paper and kept it with the bodies in the sack so that later those who found them could inform him. This was an attempt to evade suspicion about him, the DSP said. (PTI)
