Guwahati:Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has directed district and block education officials to impr-ove the standard and quali-ty of education in the state.
While inaugurating a two-day state conference on ‘Educational Planning and Administration for District and Block Educa-tion Officers of Assam’ here on Wednesday, Gogoi asked the officers to put in their effort and energy towards improving the quality of education.
“Mere enrollment is not enough. Efforts must be directed towards improving the standard and quality of education. As our children are our assets, the responsi-bility lies on your shoulders.
The state’s future hinges on you,” he said. Gogoi also said a proper evaluation of the performance of the officials at the district and block levels would be carried out with incentives given to those who perform well and even sent to good educational institutions abroad for training.
The Chief Minister, however, cautioned that officials faring poorly would be made accountable. “Grading system would be put in place to evaluate their performances,” he said.  Gogoi said his government would set up an institute on the lines of National University of Educational Planning and Adminis-tration and tie up with good institutions to impart quality training to teachers. Asking the education officials and inspectors of schools to go for regular inspection of schools to improve the standard of education, he said, “Through inspection we can assess the performance of the teachers and make them more accountable”.(PTI)
