Shillong Cricket League: Lawmali SC defeat Malki CC
SHILLONG: Lawmali SC defeated Malki CC by 75 runs in a league match of the Super Division Shillong Cricket League 2015 organised by the Shillong Cricket Association at the SCA Cricket Ground, Polo on Wednesday. Elected to bat after winning the toss, Lawmali SC were all out scoring 179 runs in 39.5 overs. Lurshai scored 56 runs of 75 balls. Ebormi scored 35 runs of 44 balls, Dathew Syngkon bagged 5/38 runs of 7.5 overs while Prolin Phanjom took 2/38 runs of 7 overs. In reply, Malki CC were dismissed after scoring 104 runs in 32.5 overs. Wanpynhunlang dolloi scored 24 runs of 61 balls, Basu Chettri destroyed them by taking 6/18 runs of 6.5 overs and Dhruv dutta claimed 2/27 runs of 5 overs. Nominate a candidate who will hold up majesty: Verma to BCCI
New Delhi: The face of anti N Srinivasan faction Aditya Verma has made an “appeal” to the BCCI members to select an honest candidate for the post of the president in the upcoming polls of the parent body within six weeks. “I hereby appeal to the BCCI members not to be misled by the misinterpretation of the scope of the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in para 110 (V) at the instance of Mr Srinivasan and request the East Zone Members, whose turn it is to nominate the candidate for the post of President BCCI, to nominate a person who will up hold the majesty and purity of the game of Cricket,” Verma appealed to BCCI interim president Shivlal Yadav through his legal counsel Chandrasekhar Verma. Verma also said that one who becomes the president should not have vested interest. “Who (new president) will ensure that frauds like match-fixing and betting and mal-practices which were predominant during N Srinivasan regime do not occur,” Verma said. Hockey Olympian Jaswant Singh Rajput passes away
Kolkata: Two-time gold medal winning hockey Olympian Jaswant Singh Rajput passed away on Wednesday morning following a prolonged illness, according to the Bengal Hockey Association. He was 88. “He was suffering from age related illness for more than a month and was looked after by his niece at his Bradford Lane residence near Park Street,” a BHA official said. His last rites would be performed on Thursday. Paying glowing tributes to Jaswant Singh Rajput, former Olympian Gurbux Singh said: “He was part of the galaxy of stars that made India proud. He was unassuming and made Kolkata his home after shifting base.” The former India centre-half was part of the gold medal winning teams in 1948 London and 1952 Helsinki Olympics. With the likes of Leslie Claudius, Keshav Dutt and Meldric Daluz, Jaswant had formed a lethal foursome and was part of a golden era in Bengal hockey with as many as seven players in the Helsinki-bound side. He shifted from Delhi to pursue his career in hockey and played for Bhowanipore Club before moving to Mohun Bagan in 1952 as helped them to win the Beighton Cup. (PTI)
