JOWAI: Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Deborah Marak on Thursday paid a visit to Demthring village in West Jaintia Hills District to inspect the construction of the Rs. 7.62 crore abattoir which has been beset with inordinate delays and controversies.
Marak expressed happiness with the progress of the construction work and exuded confidence that the work will be completed within the stipulated 18 months.
Marak was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister RC Laloo and legislators Robinus Syngkon and Stephanson Mukhim, beside officials of the Veterinary Department including Joint Director Dr. W Papang and others.
Incidentally, the local contractors claimed that the work had started in November last year but when the labourers present at the site were questioned they revealed that they started the work on January 12.
