Tripura to continue provide rice to BPL people at Rs 2/kg

Agartala:Tripura government would continue to distribute rice at a cost of Rs 2/kg to the people living under below poverty line (BPL), an official said on Thursday. “The state government would implement the Central Food Security Act from April next. As per this act, the BPL category people are supposed to get rice at the rate of Rs 3 per kg, but the state government has decided to distribute the rice to the BPL category people at Rs 2 per kg with the state paying Rs one as subsidy”, Principal Secretary (food and civil supplies) S K Rakesh told reporters. The state government is distributing rice at a cost of Rs 2 to the BPL category people since 2013. Rakesh said all the ration cards were being digitized and the entire rationing system was being computerized. “The state has 9,60,000 ration cards of which 9,10,000 cards have already been digitized,” he said adding the National Food Security Act (NFSA) would be implemented in Tripura from April 1, this year. 2825 criminal cases registered in Mizoram

Aizawl:Police stations and outposts across Mizoram registered 2,825 criminal cases of which there were 45 murder cases and 125 rape cases during January to December 2014, according to the records of the state CID (Crime) branch. The records showed that at least one murder case was registered every month and seven murder cases in March and June. There were 23 attempted murder cases registered and except in April at least one attempted murder case was registered every month during the year. Police registered 125 rape cases during the same period and suspected that there were many cases which went unreported including rape of minors. The highest number of case registered was theft at 889 cases followed by 484 cases of burglary while there were 234 people died and 103 others were injured in 132 vehicle accidents during last year. Nagaland ACAUT asks to reduce State Transport fares

Kohima: The Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland has urged the Transport Commissioner to reduce the fare of Nagaland State Transport(NST) buses since hike in fuel price is always the reason for hike in fare rates. In a press release ACAUT Nagaland stated that global oil prices as well as that of truck and light commercial vehicle have fallen over the past months. As such, it said the two most consumable items like oil and tyres for running transport have been reduced significantly.ACAUT Nagaland lamented that at no point of time has the fare of passenger transport vehicles been reduced on account of reduction in crude oil prices.’At a time of economic hardship in the state, such citizen- centric measures will always go a long way in re-assuring the people,’ it added. ‘ACAUT being a public movement will not hesitate to gather public opinion on this issue if the Department does not initiate changes in public interest at the earliest,’ it stated.(UNI)

Two militants killed, three injured in clashes with troops

Imphal:Two suspected cadres of Kuki National Front (KNF) were killed and three others injured in an alleged encounter with troops of 8 Assam Rifles at Kadangband, Imphal West district on Wednesday night. The injured were undergoing treatment at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and were stated to be out of danger. Police said there was an encounter near the post of 8 AR in which two rebels died and three sustained bullet wounds.The bodies were kept at the morgue for identification and post mortem.The injured were identified as Helen Kuki, Satmamang Kuki and Thangkholin Kuki. Enquiry ordered into ‘custodial death’ of murder accused

Guwahati: Authorities of the Kamrup Metropolitan district, com-prising primarily the state capital, on Thursday orde-red a magisterial enquiry into the death of a murder accused allegedly in police lock-up. Kamrup Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner M Angamuthu, who is also the District Magistrate, issued the order asking Executive Magistrate Mukul Kathar to conduct the enquiry and submit the report within 15 days. The order mentioned that the “incident has caused suspicion in the mind of general public”. “The Magistrate shall furnish report along with post mortem examination report and all other connected documents for onward submission to the Hon’ble Human Rights Commission,” Angamuthu said in the order. Abu Taleb (30) was arrested On January 25 from Dalgaon on charges of murder by Noonmati police station in the city.(PTI)
