SHILLONG: Along with the rest of the country, Meghalaya on Friday observed the Martyrs’ Day with a two-minute silence in memory of those who gave their lives in the struggle for India’s freedom.
The day also marked the death anniversary of the Father of the Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. In Shillong, wreaths were laid at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Main Secretariat by senior government officials led by Meghalaya Chief Secretary, Barkos Warjri. During the observance, government offices, public and vehicular movement came to a standstill to the sound of the siren followed by two minutes of silence.
