SHILLONG: The State government is studying the NGT directive to demolish all the unauthorized constructions along the banks of the Wahumkhrah and Umshyrpi rivers, said Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, Sangma said that the State Government has even constituted a committee comprising urban legislators to convince people to move from the stretches of Wahumkhrah and Umshyrpi rivers.
The Green tribunal recently directed MUDA to demolish all the unauthorized constructions in accordance with the provisions of the law within three months.
Sangma also stated that necessary proposals have been submitted to the Ministry of Water Resources for preservation of two rivers.
