1 rebel cadre shot at in factional clash at Dimapur

Kohima:One person was shot at and wounded by an unidentified gunman in an incident, suspected to be factional in nature, in Dimapur on Tuesday at the road leading to Thahekhu village, in Dimapur.Official sources said the victim was identified by the police as one Akahoto Yeptho (27 years), reported to be a self styled (SS) ‘lieutenant’ in the NSCN-K, who sustained multiple bullet wounds on the neck, chest and thigh.His condition is reportedly stable. Sources said the victim was in an auto rickshaw, when the assailant stopped the auto rickshaw, shot the victim and escaped in a white car. (UNI)

Three NDFB(S) ultras held

Guwahati:Three hardcore NDFB(S) terrorists were apprehended on Wednesday in an operation conducted by Troops of Red Horns Division and Assam Police in Manas Reserve Forest of Chirang district of Assam. The apprehended militants include Ringsar Basumatary, an active terrorist of the outfit recruited in 2010. Ringsar was involved in kidnapping of a Muslim businessman in March / April 2013 and various other extortion activities.  One 7.65mm pistol, two hand grenades and large quantity of ammunition and other war like stores were recovered during the operation. US diplomat visits Nagaland; encourages students for US study
Kohima:Minister-Counsellor for Public Affairs, US Embassy, New Delhi Walter Douglas, who was on Nagaland visit encouraged students here to apply for the United State India Foundation Education (USIFE) and avail various scholarships to study in the US.Interacting with the mediapersons here last evening, Mr Douglas said it was a positive sign to see India and US enhancing their strong bond after the recent visit of US President Barack Obama in Delhi. He said thousands of students from India go to the US for higher studies every year. He was accompanied by chief media and public communication US consulate general Public Affairs office Erica Diya Basu and deputy director US consulate general Public Affairs office, Greg Pardo.(UNI)

Mizoram has highest number of cancer patients: reports

Aizawl:Mizoram has the highest cancer incidence in the country, state Nodal Officer for Non- Communicable Diseases (NCD) Dr Eric Zomawia said as the state observed World Cancer Day on Wednesday. Zomawia said that Mizoram has a very high incidence of stomach, esophagus, lung and cervix cancer. “At least 3,137 people died due to cancer in the state during the past five years while 5,888 people suffered from cancer during the same period,” he said. “Of the 3,137 deaths due to cancer during the period 1,290 were women, while out of the 5,888 new cancer cases 2,659 were women.” This year’s theme of World Cancer Day was ‘Not Beyond Us’.  (PTI)
