Schools call off proposed strike over teacher abduction

TURA: Following the safe release of the abducted teacher from Garo Hills, schools in Garo Hills have decided to call off their proposed silent procession here on February 10.
Tura police had intercepted the planned handing over of ransom money for the release of the teacher in Nehru Park area, on the outskirts of Tura, on Wednesday night leading to the arrest of an ANVC-B militant. A day later the kidnapped assistant lecturer of Tura Christian Girls Higher Secondary School, Iqbal Rafique, mysteriously surfaced in Tura having been released somewhere in the New Tura area of the town. The Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers’ and Employees Association, whose members belong to several hundred schools and number several thousand, had threatened to agitate over the abduction and announced a silent procession in Tura on Tuesday.
