Guwahati:Buoyed by its spectacular show in the Delhi poll, the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday said it would emerge as a “strong, honest and alternative” force in Assam to defeat Congress and BJP in next year’s Assembly election.
“We will strongly contest the 2016 Assam Assembly polls. The results of the Delhi Assembly election have shown that there is scope for a strong, honest and alternative politics. We will become that force in Assam too,” AAP leader Manorom Gogoi said in a press conference here.
He, however, said the party was yet to decide on how many seats it would contest. “We know that our party is not so strong in Assam at the moment. In the next six months, we will build the party in Assam. For that Arvind Kejriwal and other central leaders will visit the state,” Gogoi said.
He said that the AAP would reach out to people to identify the problems of Assam in the next six months and would strengthen the organisation at the grass-roots level. “Our main issues are flood havoc, illegal immigration and unemployment. We will work to find out scientific and practical solutions to the problems of Assam,” Gogoi said. Describing the Delhi verdict as historic, he said, “We invite all honest people, who wish to serve the party and people, into our party.”(PTI)
