SHILLONG: The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), an NGO, has expressed concern over the worsening law and order situation in Garo Hills.
ADE Apex Committee, general secretary, N.D. Sangma said that till now the peace talks or later agreements with ANVC and ANVC (B) have not bore any fruitful results leading to the rise of more such outfits demanding the fulfillment of “long needed requirements of the ethnic people”.
The ADE said that the agreement between the Government and ANVC, ANVC (B), should be implemented at the earliest.
“Furthermore, the frequent extensions of the tenure of GHADC, is adding fuel to the public discontent,” the ADE said.
The ADE further said that since the peace settlement with ANVC and ANVC (B) has set the ball rolling for the amendment to the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, the Government should take all the NGOs, non-profit organizations, ethnic leaders and others into confidence.
The ADE has decided to meet Meghalaya Governor in this regard.
