Midfielder Hazard signs new contract with Chelsea
London: Midfielder Eden Hazard Thursday signed a new 200,000 pounds-per-week contract with English football club Chelsea that will keep the Belgian at the Stamford Bridge stadium until 2020. The 24-year-old playmaker expressed his delight after signing the contract. The deal is worth a huge 57 million pounds over the course of five-and-a-half years, reports dailymail.co.uk. “I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea. Since I came here in 2012 I have always felt good and the club has been very supportive to me,” Hazard said. “I hope we can repay that support by winning lots of trophies, beginning with the Capital One Cup at the Wembley Stadium, and after that, we can push hard towards the end of the season.” Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho criticised Hazard in May last year, claiming “he is not the kind of player ready to sacrifice himself 100 per cent for the team”. However, Hazard appears to have earned the trust of his manager, having started each of Chelsea’s English Premier League matches in the current campaign. “I am very happy that Eden has signed a new contract,” Mourinho said. Hazard represented Belgium in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. (IANS)
Tiger Woods takes indefinite leave from PGA Tour
Washington: Golfer Tiger Woods announced he will take a leave from the PGA Tour and only return when he thinks he is “ready”. Woods made the announcement on his website Wednesday after a run of poor performances, which included shooting the worst round of his professional career in January, an 11-over-par 82 in the second round of the Phoenix Open, reports Xinhua. “Right now, I need a lot of work on my game, and to still spend time with the people that are important to me,” Woods said. “My play, and scores, are not acceptable for tournament golf. Like I’ve said, I enter a tournament to compete at the highest level, and when I think I’m ready, I’ll be back.” Woods wanted to compete in The Honda Classic near his hometown in Florida in two weeks, but he added: “I won’t be there unless my game is tournament-ready.” The Masters, the first major tournament of 2015, which Woods has won four times, begins April 9. Woods has 14 major titles in his career. (IANS)
