SHILLONG:  Meghalaya militants are now being trained in  Myanmar not in Bangladesh, as was the case in the past. This has come light following the arrest of four Liberation of Achik Elite Force (LAEF) cadres in Manipur.
According to a PIB (Defense Wing) statement issued from Imphal, four cadres of LAEF were apprehended by troops of Red Shield Division  who were on duty along the NH-2 on February 10.
The Defence personnel apprehended the cadres when they were on their way to Myanmar (passing through Manipur).
However, Meghalaya police believe that there is no camp of LAEF in Myanmar.
Police sources on Friday informed that LAEF is basically a militant outfit which originated from   Dimapur  and Peter Marak who himself hailed from Dimapur had floated the outfit and the militant leader was killed in an encounter in 2007.
Most of the LAEF cadres, who hail from Dimapur, are active in Garo Hills.
