SHILLONG: The KSU-South West Khasi Hills (KSU-SWKH) will meet Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to know the status of the proposed 40 km Weiloi to Rangblang road project.
“We want to know if the State Government has actually sent a revised DPR for the project,” KSU-SWKHD president Forwardman Nongrem stated in a statement issued here on Saturday.
The KSU-SWKHD president recalled that they had been informed by Chief Secretary PBO Wajri that the project was recalled since the initial estimate of Rs 27 crore for the project was no longer feasible.
“As per the Chief Secretary, the Government had submitted the revised DPR of the road project enhancing the estimate to Rs 50 crore,” Nongrem said adding that the union wants to have a clear picture of the project before taking a final call on whether to continue with their agitation.
Union threatens to take up matter with DoNER
Nongrem said that if the meeting with the government is not satisfactory, the union will take up the matter with the Ministry of DoNER and Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways.”
The KSU has staged a series of protest since last year slamming the state government’s decision to drop the project from the region.
The 40 KM road project which was projected to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 27 crore is one of the 45 projects under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) which was dropped last year, based on the recommendation of the chief minister in the 118thmeeting of the NLCPR committee.
Following their protests, the state government had submitted a revised DPR for the construction of the road which is estimated to be over Rs 50 crore.
