Row over cutoff percentage for post of PWD Asstt. Engineer

SHILLONG: Certain deprived candidates have questioned the manner in which candidates were short-listed for the interview for the post of Assistant Engineer (contractual basis) scheduled on February 16.
A candidate on the request of anonymity claimed that the department had prepared a list of candidates based on the cut-off percentage of 76.
Several candidates, who were left high and dry, alleged that the cutoff percentage was never mentioned in the advertisement.
“They could have mentioned that  candidates having a percentage less than 76 need not apply. It would have helped valuable time and money,” they said, adding that even big PSUs including ISRO and DRDO have a maximum cutoff of 65%.
Following the allegations, attempts were made to contact officials of the department and PWD Minister but in vain as their mobile phones were either switched off or out of coverage area.
