Acting DGP praises slain sub-inspector

SHILLONG: Breaking silence on the mysterious death of Sub-Inspector of Patharkhma  PJ Marbaniang, the officiating DGP SK Jain said on Monday that the police would not succumb to any pressure as far as the investigation into the  matter is concerned.
“We will find out the truth and the investigation team is committed to find out what led to the incident”, Jain told The Shillong Times on Monday.
According to Jain, the death of Marbaniang was a personal loss for him.
The official said that the late officer worked under him for three years when he was serving under Special Branch (SB) of the police.
“He was a young and committed officer. Since he was associated with me, I can say it is a personal loss for me,” Jain said.
According to the officiating DGP, the police would ensure that the case is solved.
“Solving the case is utmost important for the family as well as the police. Why should a young officer with honest intention lose his life is our concern,” Jain said
He said that though prima facie it was presumed to be a suicide case by the Ribhoi SP, the discrepancies in the medical  report, postmortem and the version of the doctor have prompted the police to set up a Special  Investigation Team after registering a murder case.
“We have picked up police  officers  from other districts to be part of the investigation team and we have full confidence in SIT though the  probe will take more time since they have to collect evidence”, Jain said
Earlier, amidst the hue and cry over unnatural death of Marbaniang, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has stressed on the need to have faith and confidence on the Special Investigation (SIT) team which has been formed to investigate the matter.
This case  will now be investigated under the supervision of SP (Shillong City) Vivek Syiem and  IGP H Marbaniang.
