SHILLONG/ TURA: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Tuesday organized a civic action programme and free medical camp at Khasipara School near Dawki, West Jaintia Hills, on Tuesday in continuation of their Golden Jubilee celebrations.
BSF IG Meghalaya Frontier, Sudesh Kumar, graced the occasion and addressed the gathering.
He informed that the force will organize recruitments for youths of bordering area in the future and will focus on contributing towards improvement of education and health of the border populace.
Utensils, plastic chairs and other miscellaneous items were distributed to the villagers as part of the civic action programme.
Several patients were examined by BSF medical officer and the needy ones were provided with medicines. A cultural programme was also organised on the occasion.
In addition to the camp at Dawki, the BSF also organised a free medical camp on the Rangasora Primary School premises in Baghmara, South Garo Hills District recently.
A medical team led by Dr. T Gopeshwar Singh, Chief Medical Officer, 132 Bn, BSF, along with two doctors, including a lady doctor detailed by the DM&HO Baghmara and a paramedic staff from BSF and the district hospital Baghmara attended to the patients who thronged the camp from remote and inaccessible villages of the area.
Over 200 patients including women, children and elders were examined and provided with free medicines during the camp as well as instructions given for future treatments.
A short documentary film on the famous Battle of Kilapara which was fought during the Bangladesh Liberation War resulting in the death of nine BSF personnel in Dalu was also screened as part of the programme.
An informal meeting with the villagers was also held in which the BSF shared ideas on vocational training for the enhancement of avenues for their development.
The BSF assured of facilitating to collaborate with the governmental organisations like RVTI, MSME, Rubber Board etc., who in turn would impart the requisite training and expertise in skill development of the border population of these areas.
