Indicating this here on Tuesday, East Khasi Hills police chief  M Kharkrang said that due to lack of cooperation on the part of the relatives, police have been not been able to proceed with the investigation to find out if the victim was subjected to any kind of physical  torture.
“After getting some inputs, a police team had gone to the place of incident.  But by the time police team reached the spot the girl had expired,” Kharkrang said.
“We were told that the incident had taken place when the girl along with other children was playing in the area, where there are some wood cutters around. The girl died on the spot after a tree fell on her,” the senior police official said.
He said that the relatives denied that if there was any physical assault on the girl.
According to Kharkrang, the girl’s relatives also sought exemption from post-mortem.
“Despite this, we are continuing our investigation and as far as exhumation of the body of the girl is concern the matter will be decided soon,” the SP said.
