Honsen Lyngdoh receives Silver Elephant Award for contributions to Scouts and Guides movement
SHILLONG: President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday presented the Silver Elephant Award to prominent businessmen of Shillong, Honsen Lyngdoh, in recognition of his contribution to the Scouts and Guides movement.
Lyngdoh, who is affectionately addressed as ‘father’ in the Scouts and Guides circles of Meghalaya, was presented the award along with 15 others including those from Australia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Bangladesh, at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Lyngdoh began his scouting career as Headquarters Commissioner in 1982 and still continues to support the activities of the State association.
Rosario Swer, Assistant Leader Trainer of Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, was bestowed with the Silver Star award.
Swer had joined the movement in 1982 and has been instrumental in conducting several programmes for lifelong learning of children.
Meanwhile, Gary James, Organiser, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, was bestowed with the ‘Messenger of Peace Star Award Team India’ during the 50th Asia Pacific Management Course at a function held in Kolkata recently.
While congratulating the awardees, State Secretary of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, V. Swer, informed that the trio would be felicitated on Friday during the World Brotherhood Day function to be held at Umtyngngar where the training centre for Scouts and Guides is located.
