Poets’ meet

SHILLONG: All India Radio, Shillong organized a poets’ meet titled “Ki Khana Parom Ha Ki Sur Poitri” (folktales in verse) at Don Bosco Youth Centre here on Friday.
The poets’ meet, the first of its kind event organized by AIR, Shillong is an attempt to have a better insight of the philosophy of the Khasi Pnar community of the State as reflected through folktales in verse.
On the occasion, renowned poets and litterateurs held a panel discussion on the theme, “Ki Khana Parom Ki Pynpaw Ia Ka Sain Pyrkhat Jong Ka Jaitbynriew” (Folktales reflect the philosophy of the community).
Delivering the keynote address on the occasion, former president of Khasi Author Society, Professor SS Majaw narrated folktale poetry written by poets of previous generations, while bringing to the fore pieces from some of the contemporary poets like Professor BR Kharlukhi, Dr. Pascal Malngiang and Oriwell Shullai who candidly penned their poems relating to nature to have a better understanding of community’s philosophy and to encourage and rectify the areas where the community has gone wrong.
