Gogoi writes to Jaitley for release of pending CST

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has written to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for release of pending Central Sales Tax (CST) to the tune of Rs 1,429.16 crore for the period between 2010 and 2013.
“In a letter sent last (Saturday) evening, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi requested Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to take steps to release the dues of Central Sales Tax to the tune of Rs 1,429.16 crore to Assam,” an official release said.
The CST dues for 2010-11 were Rs 574.19 crore, while it stood at Rs 463.76 crore and Rs 391.21 crore for 2011-12 and 2012-13 respectively.
“Non-payment of the dues has had direct impact on the finance of the state… The government of Assam sought intervention of the Union Finance Ministry to release the dues to expedite implementation of developmental programmes and budgetary commitments,” the statement said. (PTI)
