JK Council polls: Cong asks its MLAs to vote for NC nominees
Jammu: Congress has appealed to all its MLAs to vote for National Conference candidates in the upcoming elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council. “Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President Saifuddin Soz has requested all Congress MLAs to vote for the two candidates fielded by National Conference for election to the Legislative Council,” a party spokesman said here Sunday. He said the legislators had assured Soz that they would follow the instructions of the party leadership and would vote for the NC candidates. “The legislators also raised many other issues in the meeting such as deficiency of medicines for patients who have been tested positive for swine flu. The members also complained that the masks needed for the public were not available,” the spokesman said. (PTI)
Man arrested for ‘bribing’ voters in Sarpanch polls
Morena (MP): A man was arrested Sunday for allegedly bribing voters during polling of Sarpanch elections in Singrauli area near here in which his wife is a candidate. Suresh Dagat, 48, was seen around a polling booth and shelling out money to voters to cast their ballots in favour of his wife, Laxmi. He was arrested along with Rs 63,000 cash and a mobile phone handset, Joura Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dinesh Sindhi, told PTI. He said that the officials received complaints that Suresh was giving away Rs 500 each to a voter in an attempt to secure votes for Laxmi. “We immediately reached the polling booth under Chinnoni police station and nabbed him red-handed,” the SDM said. He said Suresh has been booked under relevant sections of IPC and Madhya Pradesh Civic Election Conduct Act, adding that further investigations were on. (PTI)
Class X boy shot dead in UP district
Lakhimpur Kheri: A Class X boy was today shot dead in Gola kotwali area, police said here. Salim (15) was shot dead by Chhotey alias Salimuddin after a minor quarrel in village Allaganj. Gola police station in-charge A K Upadhyay said that the accused, Chhotey, has been nabbed from a sugarcane field. “Chhotey during interrogation confessed to his crime and said he killed Salim as he had teased his sister,” he said. In another incident, a farmer, Ram Khilawan (32), was Sunday hacked to death at Sarkhanpurwa village in Kheri Town police station area. (PTI)
