PDF to seek suspension of EC
SHILLONG: Newly-formed People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) Parliamentary Party (PP) leader Process T Sawkmie has said that his alliance will move the State Governor seeking suspension the Adelbert Nongrum-led Executive Committee (EC) “since it does not have mandate to continue in the office.”
“The present EC enjoys a slim majority. Therefore, it should be suspended,” Sawkmie said on Tuesday.
On the other hand, the PDF chairman Pynshngain N Syiem informed that they will soon meet to deliberate on the issue.
The PDF chairman revealed that besides the 15 MDCs, the Sohryngkham HSPDP MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem had also signed the agreement for forming the new alliance -PDF — in the meeting held on February 21.
“The EC would have fallen today if he (Pyniaid) had not backed out in the very last minute,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sawkmie and Nongshken independent MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri have justified their decisions to leave the ARPA to join the newly-formed PDF.
Sawkmie said that lack of farsightedness among the leaders of the ruling coalition forced him to leave the APRA
He also criticised that the present CEM Adelbert Nongrum for his inefficiency and incompetency.
Sawkmie also believes that out of the four KHNAM MDCs, he is the best person for the CEM’s post considering his experience as a legislator.
On the other hand, Kharpuri said that there were several reasons which compelled her to leave the ruling coalition.
“Everyone is busy conspiring against one another. I have really suffered in the last few months due to internal rumblings within the ruling coalition,” Nongshken independent MDC said while defending her decision.
She also said that it is impossible to remain in the alliance since there was no discipline among the members.
When asked if she has not betrayed the CEM who had inducted her as an EM in his EC despite opposition from HSPDP, Kharpuri said, “There is no question of betraying anyone.”
“Majority of the MDCs of ARPA instead have played politics with her,” she said adding that she did not have any issue with Nongrum.
“I will always respect the present CEM for his honesty,” Kharpuri added.
