Assam prepared to deal with swine flu

Guwahati:  The centre has sent one 1000 Oseltamivir to Assam government to deal with possible outbreak of seasonal influenza H1N1 virus and these have been sent to the relevant treatment centres, senior health official said.
A meeting of the department was held on Thursday to review the preparedness in the event of the outbreak of the disease in the state and Dr Bhagawati has been asked to monitor and report the prevailing situation on daily basis.
State Health and Family Welfare Department’s Nodal Officer Dr B C Bhagwati said that the Drugs Controller would ensure that pharmacies having scheduled “X” license will keep enough stock of cap Tamiflu and Syp Temiflou (oseltamivir) in case of any outbreak of the disease in the state.
There was sufficient stock of personal protective equipment and diagnostic facilities available at Gauhati Medical College and Regional Medical Research Centre at Lahowal in Upper Assam.
All Medical Colleges of the state are prepared to treat any severe cases and Isolation Facilities have been kept ready in all district hospitals, he added.
There has been no reported cases of the flu in the state so far. (PTI)
