Minor girl’s body exhumed

SHILLONG: The body of seven-year old girl, Safeenia Syiemlieh from Mawlai Kynton Massar, Block C was exhumed on Friday after the recent arrest of one Walphang Sun of the same locality for his alleged involvement in the sexual assault of the girl.
Syiemlieh died in mysterious manner after the branch of a tree reportedly fell on her on February 14.
The girl, who sustained grievous injuries, was shifted to Dr. H. Gordon Robert Hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
When contacted, East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang said that the post-mortem report would tell if there was sexual assault on the girl.
It may be mentioned that one lady had lodged a complaint at Mawlai police station that on January 31 the accused had sexually assaulted the minor girl at NEHU forest, Shillong.
