SHILLONG: Three NEHU students hailing from Manipur, who were involved in the assault and molestation of a girl working in a tea stall inside NEHU campus on February 27, were released on bail on Wednesday after they surrendered at Mawlai police station.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, the East Khasi Hills district police chief M. Kharkrang said that the three accused persons, who were involved in the crime and later absconded, surrendered at Mawlai police station with an interim pre-arrest bail from the Court.
The accused have been identified as Ringlan Ngashangva, Saramwung Raikhan  and Aaron Lungleng, all hailing from Ukhrul district of Manipur.
Kharkrang clarified that earlier information received by the police was that they were from Nagaland which is not true and this was ascertained after their surrender.
“All of them were arrested and later released on bail as per directions of the court”, Kharkrang added.
