Lahore: Pakistan has set up a 7,000-strong special protection force to provide security to over 3,000 Chinese nationals working on different projects in Punjab province amid intelligence reports that terrorists may target foreigners in the country, especially Chinese.
“We have set up the Special Protection Unit to provide foolproof security to the Chinese working on different projects across Punjab province,” Punjab Home Minister Shuja Khanzada said.
“Over 3,000 Chinese are working on various projects. We have intelligence reports that terrorists may target foreign nationals especially Chinese,” the minister said.
He added the new force which comprises more than 7,000 police, rangers and military guards, would ensure the Chinese nationals’ foolproof security.  The minister also informed Chinese Consul General Yu Boren about the new force and other steps the government had taken to ensure the security of the Chinese working here. Boren expressed satisfaction over the government’s steps to protect Chinese nationals.
He also said Chinese President Xi Jinping would visit Pakistan. “Various Chinese companies will sign agreements regarding investment here as Pakistan-China economic corridor will help strengthen Pakistan’s economy,” he said. (PTI)
