Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee orders CID probe

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday ordered a CID probe into the looting of a Missionary school and gang rape of the Mother Superior in the wee hours in Nadia district.
While condemning the the heinous crime Banerjee phoned CID chief Rajib Kumar and directed immediate arrest of the masked culprits involved in looting of the Convent Jesus and Mary School at Ganganagar in Ranaghat and subsequently gang raping the Superior sister.
A report reaching here from the scene of crime said four CID officials have alaready reached there and began investigation. They were verifying the CCTV footage to determine the situation.
Meanwhile, students of the institution and local people blocked the highway and train lines to protest the crime.
The agitators said they would not lift the blockade until all criminals involved in the crime were arrested.
Train services to Nadia and Sealdah were disrupted for over four hours from  11:30 am. The rail blockade was lifted after the authorities assured the agitators that the criminals will be arrested.
Leader of Oppostion in the state assembly Surya Kanta Mishra while condemning the crime said in the past four years not a single wrong doer was punished for commmitting crime. Mishra said the crime graph was going up every single day since the criminals were not being rounded up.
BJP MLA Samik Bhattacharjee alleged that the state government has failed to safeguard the common people across the state.
State urban development minister Firhad Hakim also condemned the attack on the Christian institution saying the motive of the criminals will be known only after the arrest.
A report from Nadia said the masked dacoits raided the missionary school, gang raped the mother superior and escaped with Rs 12 lakh money and valuables at Ranaghat early on Saturday.
Police said about seven to eight robbers raided the Convent of Jesus and Mary School at Gangannapur, tied the watchman and entered the Principal’s room where another sister and the 72-year-old mother superior were sleeping. (UNI)
