Rice scam: CBI chargesheets 5

SHILLONG: The CBI has chargesheeted two public servants and three private contractors for their alleged role in the misappropriation of over 4000 bags of rice worth over Rs 67 lakh in the State.
The accused have been identified as Ramananda Das, based at FCI, Williamnagar, another government servant Drowelson Ch. Marak, a dusting officer , Nanhelal Sah, Janardhan Brahma and Remeshwar Singh, who are the transport and  handling contractors for FCI.
After the chargesheet was filed, the accused appeared in the court of Special Judge CBI here  and obtained bail.
A CBI source said that the case dates back to 2013 when the public servants entered into criminal conspiracy with the private contractors by abusing their official position and fraudulently misappropriated 4411 bags of rice  (2136.29 quintals of rice) amounting to Rs 67,55,825.
