Policeman kills wife   
Uttar Pradesh: Police constable strangled his wife at his home here and is absconding, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place late Monday at the Motikunj Enclave residence of police constable Vinod Kumar, currently posted in Etah.Police officials probing the incident told IANS that the constable had come home on leave on Monday evening and had cooked Maggi noodles for the family. His two children – Yogita and Prateek – saw him mix something in the food and got suspicious. They did not consume the food though their mother, Madhu, did. The children feared that their father had mixed poison in the food.The woman was found dead early Tuesday morning, her body slightly blue, suggesting poisoning and with the belt of the constable wrapped around her neck. Kumar was missing.Police have launched a hunt to nab him and are probing whether there was some marital discord that led to the incident. (IANS)

Two ministers snooze as Assembly discusses death of IAS officer
Bengaluru: In an embarrassment to the Congress Government in Karnataka, two Ministers were caught napping by TV channels during a discussion in the Assembly over the suspected suicide of an upright IAS officer that has evoked outrage and anguish across political spectrum and the state.Tourism Minister R V Deshpande and Forest Minister Ramanath Rai, were seen snoozing in the visuals, as the legislators were involved in an animated discussion on the death of D K Ravi who had made his mark as a bold officer, taking on the land and sand mafia and tax evaders.The entire Opposition including BJP legislators attacked the government for failure to protect honest officials and alleged that death of the IAS officer was a case of murder and not suicide as claimed by the police in its preliminary probe. The video footage showing the ministers in a somnolent state was aired by Kannada and national news channels.The Opposition made a strong demand for a CBI inquiry into the death of Ravi, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his room at his flat here yesterday.However, government refused to yield to the Opposition demand for a CBI probe and ordered a CID inquiry. Girl found hanging in cowshed
Srinagar: In a suspected case of suicide, a 19-year-old girl was found hanging inside a cowshed in Budgam district of central Kashmir, police said on Tuesday. The girl, a resident of Kanidajan village of the district, was found hanging in the cowshed of her house last evening, a police spokesperson said. He said the body of the girl was handed over to her family members after completion of legal formalities. A case has been registered and investigation is underway, the spokesperson said adding the motive behind her taking such an extreme step was not known immediately. (PTI)

UK Navy chief visits Southern Naval command facilities
Kochi: UK Navy chief Admiral Sir George Zambellas on Tuesday visited Cochin Shipyard here and was shown the under-construction indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant. The First Sea Lord of Royal Navy Admiral Zambellas, also the Chief of Naval Staff, accompanied by his spouse Lady Amanda Zambellas is on a two-day visit to Kochi from today. The Admiral, who arrived here from Delhi, also visited various training facilities and simulators in the Southern Naval Command and acquainted himself with the training methodology of the Indian Navy, a release from Indian Navy said here today. The Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Naval Command, Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, had a meeting with the Admiral, on a four-day tour of the country, and discussed professional issues of mutual interest, it said. The Royal Navy and the Indian Navy has been having regular bilateral exercises at sea called Exercise Konkan since 2004. (PTI)
